This is the first official picture of Bentley's new SUV, which is due to hit UK roads in 2016.

Unfortunately, the teaser image doesn't give too much away about the new car; however, what it does reveal is that the production Bentley will have a radically different front end to the one previewed by the EXP 9 F Concept at the Geneva Motor Show in 2012, eschewing the concept's huge single headlights in favour of a twin-lap setup similar to the one found on the Continental GT.

Bentley claims that the new car will be "the most luxurious and powerful SUV on the market," and will remain true to Bentley's hallmarks of "luxury, performance, quality and craftsmanship."

From launch, the as-yet unnamed SUV will be available with Bentley's existing V8 and W12 engines, with a petrol-electric hybrid version expected to join the range in 2017.

Bentley has also confirmed that it is set to become the sole manufacturer of W12 engine for the VW Group, a move which will create an extra 100 jobs in Crewe and which will see 9,000 W12 units built annually in Britain.

Dr Wolfgang Schreiber, chairman and CEO of Bentley, said of the new car: "It will create a completely new segment in the SUV market."

The SUV forms part of an £800m investment by Bentley in new models and facilities. The company expects to sell 3,000 examples of the new car annually.
