Fundraising for this year’s Children in Need got an early boost when a new Bentley Continental GTC, capable of 195mph, was sold for nearly a quarter of a million pounds.

An auction event to raise funds for Children in Need, held at the Manchester Hilton Hotel and hosted by Gary Barlow with support from Chris Moyles, Sir Terry Wogan, Kelly Rowland, Coleen Rooney and JLS, was boosted by generous bidding on a Bentley Continental GTC.

The event was filled with both famous names and generous bidders, and when Gary Barlow decided to add a little drama to the auction of the new car provided by Bentley Manchester, by first putting in his own bid, and then promising to deliver the car in person to the winner of the auction, the price rocketed to an impressive £240,000 before the hammer went down on the sale.

As well as getting the extra perk of having their car delivered in person by the X-Factor judge the winning bidders have been invited to visit the Bentley factory, and will also be able to select the woods and leathers for the interior furnishings of the car themselves. And as a final touch, Bentley's craftsmen will be adding the signatures of several of the celebrities in attendance at the event to the interior of the car, creating a truly unique vehicle.

Managing Director of Bentley Manchester, Mr Jon Crossley, commented that "Nearly 400 people saw the auction unfold and, as the price kept on rising, the whole place fell silent.  To reach £240,000, even for the very latest Bentley which is still making its debut at the Los Angeles Motor Show, just takes your breath away."
