Audi’s classy coupé has been given a mid-life facelift.
How time flies! Audi’s A5 coupé is already four year’s old and Audi has decided that the A5 needs some tweaks to keep it competitive with its fierce rivals in the premium coupé sector.
The A5’s engine range has been thoroughly revised and now includes a redesign of the 1.8-litre petrol, now producing 170bhp alongside the old 2.0-litre TFSI and 2.0 TDI. Three V6 oil-burners are also on offer – two differently tuned but essentially identical engines producing 201bhp or 242bhp and an eco-friendly diesel unit.Disappointingly, the spectacular 4.2-litre V8 used in the old S5 has been dropped in favour of a smaller cleaner 3.0-litre V6 unit.
The interior has been given a freshen up and the car’s exterior styling has been brought into line with Audi’s ‘corporate’ look with new front and rear headlights, fog lights and revised bumpers and grilles.
The new Audi A5 will be available from September and Audi are promising only a small increase on the current list prices.
