The Audi Q3 has topped the 'Small Off-Road 4x4' class in Euro NCAP's latest round of safety testing.

The Audi Q3 received the top five-star rating from the independent organisation, with standard safety features including a fasten seatbelt reminder for both the front and rear seat passengers, a front end designed to help minimise pedestrian and occupant injuries in the event of a collision, and a number of driver assistance packages.

The Audi side assist system uses two 24gHz radar sensors to detect what is happening to the rear of the Q3, aiding the driver on motorway and dual-carriageway lane changes. If it detects a vehicle closing rapidly, or a vehicle in the blind spot, an LED indicator lights up the drivers side view mirror casing, becoming brighter if the driver activates the indicator to pull out. In addition, Audi active lane assist utilises a camera mounted under the rear view mirror to monitor lane markings up to a distance of more than 50 metres, and at speeds over 40mph will help the driver steer back into the lane if the Q3 approaches a line without the indicators being activated. Steering wheel vibration can also be turned on to alert the driver to suspected unintentional lane changes.

The information system also processes and displays info such as the speed limit on the road the Q3 is on, and using the same camera as the active lane assist can also process traffic signs warning of wet weather.

In more good news for Audi, the A6 has also earned a five-star Euro NCAP rating. The A6 has a number of safety features as standard, including lane assist, head-up display, night vision assistant with pedestrian alert function, and Audi park assist.
