Audi has announced plans to install two new TDIe engines into the A5 Coupe and A5 Sportback ranges.
The two cars will share the latest 2.0-litre TDIe engine delivering 161bhp with CO2 output of 115g/km and the potential for up to 64.2mpg.
Also available in Sportback is a 134bhp version, which has an attractive starting price of £27,320 OTR, making it the cheapest TDI in the new A5 range. All of the engines are linked to a six-speed manual transmission.
The A5 Sportback 2.0 TDIe 134bhp can accelerate from 0 to 62mph in 9.5 seconds, reach a top speed of 132mph and return up to 64.2mpg according to the official combined cycle test, equating to a low CO2 output of 117g/km.
The 161bhp version can reach 0 – 62mph in 8.7 seconds and has a top speed of 137mph and returns 62.8mpg with a negligible increase in CO2 output to 118g/km.
In the Coupe the 161bhp TDIe engine fares better still, travelling from 0 to 62mph in 8.4 seconds with a top speed of 140mph, raising economy to 64.2mpg and taking CO2 to 115g/km.
Audi sold an impressive 113,703 cars in the UK in 2011, a 14 per cent increase on 2010.
As well as the new energy efficient e range of vehicles, the A5 Sportback is also available in 141bhp and 174bhp versions of the 2.0-litre engine, and the 3.0-litre V6 TDI in 201bhp and 242bhp forms. The 242bhp is linked to the quattro all-wheel-drive without exception.
