Audi has introduced new fuel efficient Ultra models of the A4, A4 Avant and A5 coupe, all of which feature a range of mechanical and styling tweaks aimed at maximising fuel economy and lowing emissions.
Although they look almost identical to the SE counterparts on which they're based -- discreet Ultra badging on the rear is the sole visual change -- the Ultra models get lowered suspension which helps reduce drag and improve fuel economy.
Underneath, all models are fitted with the new 161bhp 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine mated to a six-speed manual gearbox which delivers more torque -- 280lb-ft, to be precise -- across a wider band of the rev range.
Audi claims the A4 will return 56.5mpg and emit just 109g/km of CO2, while the A5 will manage 55.4mpg and emit 114g/km.
This is good news for company car drivers and private buyers alike, as not only does this mean all models now fall under VED band B, it also means that the A4 and A5 Coupe have BIK ratings of 16 per cent, while the A4 Avant has a rating of 17 per cent.
The A5 Coupe is available solely in SE form, while the A4 and A4 Avant models can also be upgraded to SE Technik specification. All cars come with 17-inch alloys, a 6.5-inch infotainment screen, auto-lights and wipers, rear parking sensors and electronic climate control.
Audi is planning to roll out the Ultra specification across more models in the line-up, beginning with the A5 Sportback later this year.
