Aston Martin has revealed its new Vanquish Volante, a drop-top version of the firm's V12 flagship.
The Vanquish Volante replaces the DBS Volante as the firm's range-topping drop-top GT car and comes with the same 6.0-litre V12 engine as the coupe. The engine develops 565bhp and 457lb-ft of torque and the power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed TF automatic gearbox.
Aston Martin has also managed to cut the Vanquish's roof off without harming its performance figures, meaning Volante is capable of the same 0-62mph time of 4.1 seconds and 183mph top speed as the coupe.
The Volante is the first drop-top Aston ever to feature full carbon-fibre bodywork and thanks to this, it's the stiffest convertible in the firm's history. It's a full 14 per cent stiffer than the old DBS Volante, which Aston claims makes it highly resistant to flex, allowing for responsive and predictable handling.
The springs and damper rates have also been tweaked to give the Volante the same handling and ride characteristics of the coupe.
On the outside, the Volante looks broadly similar to the Vanquish coupe. Even the windscreen is the same height as the coupe's -- a first for a soft-top Aston. The trip-layer fabric roof takes 14 seconds to open and is of an especially aerodynamic design.
The Volante's interior has been carried straight over from the coupe, with the same quilted leather and glass buttons you'd expect to find in the hard-top.
Boot space has been improved over the outgoing DBS Volante. At 279-litres, the Vanquish's boot is 50 per cent larger than the DBS's, which should make it one of the more practical cars in its class.
The Aston Martin Vanquish Volante is available to order now with prices starting from £199,995. The first deliveries are expected later in the year.
