Aston Martin has released the first pictures of its new revised DB9, which borrows heavily from the recently axed Virage model.
The DB9 now gets more power and a new design inspired by the Virage.
The Virage was a bit of a disaster for Aston Martin. It was designed to fit into the range above the DB9 but below the more aggressive and hardcore DBS; however, only 1,089 were sold during its 18 month lifespan. Aston therefore decided to kill the Virage off, and incorporate some of its best bits into the new DB9.
The big news is that the 5.9-litre V12 in the new DB9 now develops 510bhp -- 40 more than the old model -- and the torque has been increased from 442lb-ft to 457lb-ft. This means 0-62mph takes just 4.6 seconds -- a 0.2 second improvement -- and a 183mph top speed.
Aston has achieved this by upgrading the DB9's engine block and cylinder head, and by tweaking the engine's variable valve timing and intake manifold.
The new DB9 also gets a carbon-fibre front splitter and rear diffuser, carbon-fibre wing mirrors and dark exhaust pipes. New 20-inch alloy wheels are also on offer, as are carbon-ceramic Brembo brakes.
On the inside, the new car comes with the glass switchgear from the Virage and -- in the two-seater model, at least -- lightweight carbon-fibre sports seats.
Aston has yet to reveal the pricing structure for the new DB9, but has announced that prices will start from £131,995 -- £3,845 more than the old DB9, but £18,000 less than the old Virage.
