Audi have confirmed the details of a special edition 253bhp A1 which will come to the UK in limited numbers.

The left-hand-drive only model will be priced at £41,020, but, with just nineteen examples bound for the UK, Audi claim almost all have already been reserved despite the order books not officially opening until next month.

The Audi A1 Quattro will be powered by a specially tuned 253bhp 2.0-litre TFSI engine, producing 258 lb-ft of torque, propelling the car from 0-62mph in 5.7 seconds and to a top speed of 152mph. The Audi A1 Quattro will emit 199g/km of CO2, while returning 32.8mpg. The engine is combined with a six-speed quick-shift gearbox with a rear-axle mounted, electronically controlled, multi-plate hydraulic clutch whose package of plates rotates in an oil bath. The A1 Quattro has electrohydraulic power steering, and its Electronic Stability Program has a sport mode, but can be switched off entirely for track use.

The A1 Quattro is finished in Glacier White metallic, with matching 18-inch alloy wheels, and a gloss black roof with prominent spoiler and deep bumpers inspired by rally car design. Inside, the car has black leather sports seats, with red stitching and quattro badging, as well as white needles, red-faced rev counter and the flat-bottomed multi-function sports steering wheel.

Standard equipment includes xenon headlights, adaptive brake lights, LED interior lighting, light and rain sensors, rear parking system, air conditioning, and cruise control.

Order books will open next month, with the first examples expected to be delivered in September.
