Chevrolet today celebrates its 100th birthday, rounding off a record year for the US car manufacturer. 2011 saw the release of six new models for the GM subsidiary: the Orlando, Cruze, Aveo, Camaro, Volt and Corvette Grand Sport.

Chevrolet is celebrating by entering its Volt hybrid vehicle into the Brighton to London future car challenge and unveiling a statue to the firm's founder, Louis Chevrolet, in his hometown of La Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland.

Today Chevrolet is the fourth largest automotive manufacturer in the world and has sold 209 million cars and trucks since its formation in 1911. Someone in the world buys a new Chevy every seven seconds.
