Porsche has announced the introduction of the new 911 Carrera Cabriolet.
Like its coupe counterpart, the 911 cabrio is fitted with a choice of 3.4 or 3.8-litre flat-six engines producing 350bhp and 400bhp, respectively. With a PDK gearbox feeding the power from the engine to the rear wheels, both cars return over 28mpg on the combined cycle.
Weight is always the killer with cabriolets as the engineers have to fit lots of strengthening beams to counteract the loss of rigidity that results from removing the roof. Porsche have therefore been careful to shed weight, using magnesium in the hood frame to keep the flab at bay. As a result, the new 911 Cabrio is significantly lighter than its predecessor.
The 911 Cabriolet goes on sale in the UK on 3rd March 2012 with prices starting at £79,947 for the standard Carrera and £89,740 for the Carrera S.
