55% of car owners regularly take their car out for a spin despite having nowhere to go, a new report from AA/Populus claims.

The survey shows that, despite the rising cost of motoring and the proliferation of so-called 'traffic calming' devices threatening to spoil the roads for enthusiastic drivers, more than half of motorists regularly take to the roads for the sheer fun of it.

23% take their car out for a 'leisure drive' at least once a month, while one in ten of us do so weekly.

Motorists in Northern Ireland are the most likely to drive for pleasure, while perhaps unsurprisingly, Londoners are the least likely to do so.

So, do you ever simply 'go for a drive'? Do you still enjoy the thrill of driving, or is the idea of motoring for pleasure alien to you? Comment below.
