Employees at Jaguar Land Rover's Halewood factory have been celebrating the production of the 300,000th Land Rover Freelander 2.

The car is a 2.2-litre diesel in Barolo Black and is the 300,000th Freelander produced since the model went into production at Halewood in October 2006. The car is destined for export to Brazil - one of Land Rover's fastest growing markets.

Richard Else, Halewood Operations Director, said, "I'd like to congratulate the Halewood team for reaching this superb milestone and also sustaining the highest quality standards on Freelander 2, during the Range Rover Evoque launch period."

2012 also marks the fiftieth anniversary of the Halewood plant itself. The factory was built in 1962 and the first car rolled off the production line in March 1963.
