The Audi Q6 e-tron is expected to be revealed towards the end of this year.

It will be a rival to cars like the BMW iX3, Mercedes-Benz EQC and Jaguar I-Pace. The Audi’s expected to cost from £55,000 for a low-power long-range model, while performance versions will cost more than £70,000.

The Q6 e-tron will be Audi’s mid-sized electric SUV slotting below the top-of-the-range e-tron SUV and above the Q4 e-tron. The Q6 will be based on the soon-to-be-revealed new Porsche Macan which will use PPE (Premium Platform Electric) underpinnings that have specifically been designed for electric cars.

That should show on the inside where the modern platform should make the Q6 feel very roomy. Its small electric motors mean more of the car’s length can be devoted to passenger space and because it’s been designed to be an electric car from the ground up, its batteries can be accommodated without eating into boot space. You can also expect the Q6 to have a flat interior floor which only enhances the feeling of space inside.

As a result, you’ll have more than enough room in there for four tall adults and the boot will be large and practically shaped.

A smart design will also be high on the interior’s agenda. You can expect the Audi to have large infotainment screens on the centre of the dashboard and behind the steering wheel. You’ll be able to specify kit like augmented reality sat-nav and a head-up display. Plastic quality will be excellent and you can expect to choose from a range of expensive looking trims and upholstery finishes.

Underneath the posh fixtures and fittings you’ll find the best electric powertrains Audi has to offer. The Q6 e-tron is likely to get a huge 100kWh battery that will give it a range of more than 400 miles in rear-wheel drive long-range specification.

Performance models will be four-wheel drive and are likely to get the same 646PS powertrain that is fitted to the RS e-tron GT, which will allow them to hurtel from 0-62mph in less than four seconds. The downside? They’ll likely have a range of less than 300 miles.

Both models are expected to get a 800V charging system which means you can charge the car at speeds of up to 350kW, if you can find a charger quick enough. At those speeds, it’ll take just 25 minutes to charge the Q6 e-tron’s battery from five to 85 percent or you can add 186 miles worth of charge in just 10 minutes.

We'll have more news on the Audi Q6 e-tron in the coming months.
