Honda has revealed that the new Civic Type-R will become the fastest front-wheel drive car ever to lap the infamous Nurburgring in Germany.
Although the new Honda Civic Type-R won’t go on sale until 2015, Honda has confirmed that the new car will be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine which will produce 276bhp. A further two years of development lie ahead before the Civic Type-R goes on sale but track testing has already begun.
President of Honda Europe Manabu Nishimae, said: "We have recently spent a week at the Nurburgring, carrying out extensive testing and we are on target, and have already set a time approaching the lap record."
The current lap record for front-wheel drive cars at the 'Ring is 8 minutes 7.97 seconds, set by the Renaultsport Megane 265.
