Skoda has unveiled the new Octavia vRS special. With 590bhp and a top speed of 200mph, it is the fastest car Skoda has ever built.

The new car is to be built as part of Skoda’s celebration for the tenth anniversary of the vRS badge. Skoda will attempt to break the 200mph at the Bonneville Speed Week in August.

The vRS uses the 2.0 four-pot TSI engine that comes in the standard Octavia. On to this, however, they’ve strapped a massive turbo. Just for good measure, they’re running the bonkers Skoda on high octane fuel and the vRS is a full 8cm lower than the standard car, improving aerodynamics and handling.

Regulations dictate that the car is fitted with a roll-cage, fire extinguisher, intercooler and, perhaps most amazingly, a parachute.

Bonneville Speed Week is held between the 13th and 20th August.
