Volkswagen Touareg Overview

The current Touareg is the second generation model can be bought with either a V8 or V6 engine and has a good collection of new features including a first for headlight technology known as the 'glare-free high beam'

The Touareg is a great drive which has sharp steering and good suspension. It's a very good looking vehicle, but it may prove to be too large for many UK roads and it has some pretty tough competition with the likes of the Land Rover Discovery.

Background

The Volkswagen Touareg was first introduced in 2002 as a joint venture project between Audi, Porsche and Volkswagen group.

The first generation Touareg came with a four-wheel drive system and some optional features which would improve the cars off-road abilities such as an air suspension system which raises the car's ride height on command.

The first generation Touareg received a facelift in 2007 which saw 2300 redesigned parts, a shield grill and some new technological features including the Side Scan blind-spot warning system. There were also quite a few different first generation versions available such as the R50, the V6 TDI, the V6 TDI Clean Diesel and the V6 TSI Hybrid.

The second generation Touareg arrived in 2010 and currently offers a choice of 5 models including a hybrid model.

Summary

The Touareg is a decent all-rounder which is very good looking and desirable, but may prove to be a little too big, especially for city roads.
