Proton Savvy Overview
The Savvy comes with only one engine option; a 1.2 petrol which will not do it for everyone. It does around 50 miles per gallon and can achieve a top speed of 105 mph.
The Savvy is marketed more toward younger buyers and will be the company’s attempt to attract a different kind of buyer. The competition is stiff in this sector and budget brands have to be able to compete with more stylish brands.
Background
The Proton Savvy arrived in 2005 as a replacement model for the Proton Tiara after the Tiara was discontinued in 2000. The Savvy uses an engine from Renault despite being designed in house. An R3 variant was introduced in 2006 which was named the Savvy Zerokit; this variant included a full bodykit, a rear spoiler and some new 15 inch wheels.
The Savvy has won a number of awards such as the “Best City Car” award at the Indonesian Car of the Year awards in 2007, yet it has not been so well received in Europe or the United Kingdom.
Summary
The Proton Savvy is a fairly decent car. It makes a good city car but the budget materials in the cabin are disappointing and the engine noise gets to be unpleasant.
