Mercedes-Benz G Class Overview

The model comes with a 5-speed or 7-speed automatic transmission and features a luxury interior with a choice of black or grey fabric upholstery or leather seats in either black, grey or chestnut.

There are several diesel and petrol engines available, most notably a 5.4 litre supercharged V8.

The G-Class provides a smooth and fun driving experience, in part due to the elevated driving position that makes for a very comfortable ride.

Background

The first G-Class available to the public was the 460 in 1979. This model was available as a 4-door or 2-door van, and as a 2-door convertible. The car’s military roots were evident, and it was most popular with military enthusiasts.

The first generation was available with 4-speed and 5-speed manual transmissions, and a 4-speed automatic transmission, with petrol or diesel engines.

The second generation Mercedes G-Class, the 463, has been in production since 1990. The initial model had received many enhancements and was vastly superior to its predecessor. A wider range of engines were available, the interior had been upgraded and was finished in wood or leather, and the cabin was generally more luxurious.

The range was refreshed in 1997, with more engines available and the introduction of a 2-door power-topped convertible.

2005 saw the introduction of the G55 AMG which could accelerate from 0 – 60mph in less than 5 seconds. There were minor changes to the G-Class in 2006, 2007 and 2008.

2009 was the 30th anniversary of the G-Class and the model received many upgrades and featured many new technological innovations. New engines were available, and the cabin featured more luxurious trims. Moreover, the car was equipped with a 40 GB hard drive, a 6-disc CD/DVD player, GPS navigation and Bluetooth capabilities.

The car received a few minor updates in 2010, including revised seats and new upholstery choices.
