Mazda 2 Overview

The car is available with a range of engines, petrol and diesel, and as a 3-door or 5-door hatchback or a 4-door saloon. The diesel engine options are best in terms of maximising efficiency. The transmissions available with the Mazda2 are 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual.

Its sharp handling and responsive steering make the Mazda2 a very enjoyable car to drive. The car is comfortable inside with a decent amount of cabin space, making for a very smooth ride.

The car is versatile and serves well as a first car for young drivers. Not only is the Mazda2 one of the most affordable cars in its class, it also has good fuel economy and is very easy to drive.

Background

The Mazda2 was first introduced in 1996. The model was initially only available as a 5-door hatchback, with a choice of 1.3 litre or 1.5 litre engines. It became a successful car for the company and was produced until 2002.

2002 saw the introduction of the second generation Mazda2, which came with a wide range of engines and a choice of three different trims. There was a trim targeted at young women, one at young men and one at families. This was a key selling point for the car, providing a huge target market for it.

The third generation has been in production since 2007, and is now also available as a 3-door hatchback and as a 4-door saloon. The exterior has been redesigned and is much more aesthetically pleasing. New modifications to the interior have been made, with more technology now present inside the car.

Summary

The Mazda2 is a smart vehicle that is affordable and easy to drive. The car boasts good resale values, and perhaps its greatest attribute is its versatility – making for a great family car and an excellent one for new drivers.
