Lotus Exige Overview

The Lotus Exige exterior design has under gone very few changes since 2000, however, it boasts the same low stance, aerodynamic aids and the same curvy shape that make it quite unique. One change is the addition of LED rear lights, which not only look better but also give the car an obvious safety advantage.

The Lotus Exige is an expensive car to purchase, but considering the amount of performance that the car delivers the price is fairly reasonable. Running costs will be reasonable as well, but insurance will definitely be on the high side. Driven conservatively the efficient 1.8-litre petrol engine can deliver good, if not spectacular, fuel economy.

Background

The Exige was first produced in 2000.

In 2004 the Series 2 Exige was produced and featured an updated engine which allowed for better performance.

In February 2005, Lotus announced a limited production run of 50 Exiges, using the supercharged Toyota engine, which increases the power output to 243 bhp. These vehicles were only available in yellow or black, representing the colours of Lotus Sport.

The latest production model is the Exige S, which has been available since 2005. The S has a top speed of 148mph and can accelerate from 0 -60mph in 4.1 seconds.

Engine updates for the Lotus Exige S were made available in 2008 and 2009.

There have also been non-production models built in recent years, the Exige 265E and the Exige GT3.

Summary

The Lotus Exige is a stunning high-performance sports car. Though not practical in the slightest, the Exige offers all of the driving thrills one would expect from a Lotus.
