Background

The Lotus Elise was first produced in 1996. It had a relatively low weight which gave it quick acceleration and also improved the car’s braking, cornering and fuel consumption. The car was fitted with a 1.8 litre engine with a 5-speed manual transmission.

The Series 2 model was introduced in 2002 and is still produced today. It was made available with a 6-speed transmission and was equipped with an improved exterior.

In 2008 there were several additions to the Lotus line-up and there are currently three versions of the Elise available, the Elise S, Elise R and Elise SC, the latter with a supercharged engine.

There have been many special editions of the car, including the 50th anniversary edition to mark the anniversary of the company.
