The Lexus RX is a 4x4 that has been produced from 1998 and is currently in its third generation. The Lexus brand has always offered high-tech modern features regardless of make or model, so a complex petrol-electric combination that can cope with four-wheel drive is not a surprise. Lexus RX Overview

The RX is less expensive than its competitors and offers good fuel consumption rates. The car has a spacious interior, but only accommodates four passengers, and so is not ideal for larger families. For smaller families, however, there is plenty of head and legroom with a large boot for storage.

The Lexus RX is not designed for performance. It provides a comfortable and reliable ride in town and on longer trips. It’s at its best when not being pushed too hard. Enthusiastic drivers may not enjoy the ride but passengers will be more than comfortable, again emphasising what a great family car the RX can make.

The vehicle provides a pleasurable driving experience with good handling, and is equipped with a stylish and innovative interior.

Background

The Lexus RX was first introduced in 1998, with several engines available and all sporting automatic transmissions. The interior included leather seats, wood trim, and individual reclining and sliding rear seats. A 7-sepaker sound system was also standard.

The model was updated in 2000, featuring a luxury trimmed steering wheel, a DVD-based navigation system and tow hitch receiver. In addition, Vehicle Stability Control became standard.

2003 saw the arrival of the second generation Lexus RX, which featured a 5-speed automatic transmission and a newer, sleeker body style. It was also equipped with a bigger engine – 3.3 litres – and available as front or all-wheel drive. It was available with optional DVD-based navigation system and a rear seat DVD player with wireless headphones, as well as other luxurious extras.

In 2006 the second generation was updated with a new 3.5 litre engine as well as chrome door handlesand new exterior choices.

The third generation of the Lexus RX was introduced in 2009. The new model featured a 6-speed automatic transmission in addition to improved handling and increased boot space. The third generation also sported a new exterior design with a rear spoiler.

Summary

The Lexus RX is a 4x4 that will provide a comfortable and smooth drive and serve as the ideal car for a small family, providing practicality and luxury.
