Lexus LS Car Reviews

The Lexus LS is a full-size, rear-wheel drive executive saloon. The longest surviving model produced by Lexus, the LS has received many updates and improvements over its long lifetime. The LS is recognised for its exceptionally quiet cabin and is one of the most reliable cars in the world. The car is an expensive one to buy and maintain, but the price reflects the style, performance and technological innovations that the LS is equipped with. It is a very spacious car with good head and legroom in the front and back, making for a perfect family car. Boot space is also good.

Lexus LS Overview

The Lexus LS provides excellent accessibility. The doors open wide and passengers can easily slide into the car’s seats. In addition the interior is very luxurious with particularly comfortable seats which adjust to minimise whiplash in a crash.

The LS provides an excellent driving experience. The car is quick, steers and handles well and delivers an exceptionally smooth and comfortable ride. Factor in the safety innovations and buyers will be hard pressed to even consider rival brands.

Each generation sports a V8 engine, and the latest model features an 8-speed transmission enabling it to reach a top speed of 155mph.

Background

The LS is a four-door saloon that has been produced in four generations since its production began in 1989. The original model featured a 4 litre engine with a 4-speed automatic transmission. It was equipped with many technological innovations and was priced lower than many of its competitors, which made for good sales. In 1992 the model was updated with larger wheels and improved handling.

The second generation of the LS was released in 1994. The car was lighter and faster than its predecessor and was equipped with a number of upgraded features. In 1997 the model was revised and available with a 5-speed automatic transmission, with improved acceleration times and fuel economy.

In 2000 the third generation of the car was introduced, with a new 4.3 litre engine. This model was updated in 2003 with a new 6-speed automatic transmission and a restyled exterior. It also featured new trim selections and an updated navigation system.

A fourth generation of the car was released in 2006 with a 4.6 litre engine and improved acceleration. The new model sported a push-button start and an automated parallel parking feature. The fourth generation was updated in 2009 with a chrome trim option, a restyled exterior and an optional DVD entertainment system.

A further restyle in 2012 saw the addition of Lexus's new 'spindle' corporate grille and a host of further design improvements.

Summary

The Lexus LS is one of the company’s most successful models, combining performance, style, sophistication and luxury exceptionally well whilst also making for a brilliant family car.
