Background
The Discovery Series I was first produced in 1989 and was available initially as a 3-door, and then soon after as a 5-door. Both versions were fitted with 5 seats as standard with the option of two more seats to be fitted in the boot. A wide range of engines were made available over the car’s production period, which lasted until 1998. These were available with a 4-speed automatic transmission or a 5-speed manual transmission.
The Discovery Series II debuted in 1999, and had undergone many changes. Both the interior and exterior had been significantly updated. Almost all the outer body panels were new and the model was equipped with a 4.6 litre V8 engine.
2004 saw the start of production for the Discovery Series III. The new model was available with 6-speed transmissions and a range of different engines. The interior featured a flexible seven seat layout. Passengers in the rearmost row now entered through the rear side doors, instead of the boot as in previous versions.
The Discovery 4 has been in production since 2009. The model has a sleeker exterior look with altered front and rear light units and a restyled front grille and bumper. The Discovery 4 also features a redesigned interior; the controls have been rearranged and there is a wider range of materials available. A 5 litre V8 engine is now an option.
