Land Rover Defender Overview

The Defender is available with a wide range of engines and transmissions. It is an incredibly reliable vehicle and has no trouble travelling across even the most challenging of terrain.

Due to these qualities it is unsurprising that the Defender has been used in many of the world’s military forces.

Background

Initially released in 1983 as the Land Rover Ninety and the Land Rover One Ten, the numbers representing the sizes of the wheelbase in inches, the models were renamed the Defender 90 and 110 respectively in 1991. The original models were available with a wide range of engines and transmissions.

The renamed Defender was now available in 2-, 3-, 4- and 5-door forms. In 1998 it was fitted with a 2.5 litre turbo diesel engine to reduce emissions. Throughout its lifetime the Defender has been used in many of the world’s military forces, highlighting its incredible capabilities.

From spring 2007 a series of changes were made to the Defender, most of which were implemented to meet emissions and safety legislation. The engine was changed, and there were also major changes to the interior of the car including the dashboard and seating layouts.

Moreover, there have been many special edition versions of the Land Rover Defender produced, such as the Heritage and the Tomb Raider.

Summary

The Land Rover Defender is a car with exceptional off-road ability and is capable of feats that many vehicles are not. It will provide durability and reliability in abundance.
