Fiat Doblo Overview

The Fiat Doblo may look like a van, but it drives like a car with direct, responsive steering and an excellent braking system. It makes for an all-round enjoyable driving experience. Cabin space is good, both in the front and back, with ample head and legroom even for taller passengers. The ride is also very refined.

Both petrol and diesel engines are available, as are manual and automatic transmissions. The diesel engine option is best in terms of performance and fuel economy. Moreover, the Doblo is reliable and affordable, making for a brilliant family vehicle. It comes with a stereo unit and an optional satellite navigation system.

Background

The Fiat Doblo was unveiled in 2000 at the Paris Motor Show.

The first generation model was available as a 3-door, 4-door or 5-door panel van. There was a choice of a 5-speed or 6-speed manual transmission and a wide range of engines – petrol and diesel. The car was very practical, with room for a family, but did not look particularly appealing.

The second generation of the Fiat Doblo was released in 2009. It is now available for the first time with an automatic transmission. The exterior has been restyled with a more modern look to it and the engine options have been upgraded.

In 2010 an all-electric version of the Doblo was revealed to be in development.

Summary

The Fiat Doblo offers practicality in abundance with a spacious, comfortable interior and very good handling. With space for five passengers and room for a vast amount of luggage, it makes an excellent family vehicle.
