The C-Crosser is Citroen’s offering in a growing trend of 4x4 crossovers. It also represents the company’s first attempt at producing a 4x4. The only available engine is a 2.2 litre diesel that is a good all rounder, combining strong pace with good flexibility and respectable economy. The C-Crosser is also surprisingly nimble given its size, and the firm suspension limits body roll well, although this obviously has an effect on overall ride quality.

Citroen C-Crosser Overview
Inside the C-Crosser offers a practical space in which five passengers can fit comfortably. The rear seats however do not offer much legroom and are really only suitable for shorter journeys. In addition, when all seven seats are up, the boot space is small. If the C-Crosser were used as a five-seater, the boot is reasonably big, and since the rear-most seats fold flat into the floor there is an even loading space. The second row of seats can also be folded if larger items need to be transported, and the split tailgate means access to the boot is easy with no rear lip to lift heavy items over.
A high driving position gives a commanding view of the road ahead, and although there is no reach adjustment on the steering wheel, the high level of seat adjustment does enough to compensate. The dash is free from clutter and buttons and dials are large and intuitive, which makes the C-Crosser easy to get along with from the start. Equipment is decent on the entry model with a few extras added to the exclusive range.
Background
The C-Crosser went on sale in 2007 and is almost identical to the Peugeot 4007 and Mitsubishi Outlander. All three of these models are in fact produced by Mitsubishi and are based on the company’s GS Platform. The C-Crosser name was taken from an unrelated 4x4 concept car that Citroen unveiled at the 2001 Frankfurt Motor Show.
Summary
The C-Crosser is a large crossover 4x4 that is more suited to driving on the road than off it. It offers a good level of practicality and although the seven seats may not be ideal for everyday use, they do give an element of flexibility that will appeal to larger families.
