Cadillac Escalade Car Reviews

The sheer size and presence of the Escalade makes it impossible to ignore. It steals the limelight and is sure to get you noticed with its in-your-face styling. The huge 6.2 litre V8 engine means that this massive 4x4 puts fuel efficiency and low emissions at the bottom of the list of its priorities. On the other hand it’s strong enough to provide rapid acceleration, which may not be expected on a car of this size, while the automatic transmission provides smooth changes.

Cadillac Escalade Overview

Inside the Escalade is cavernous. With 3 rows of seats, capable of seating 8, you will never be wanting for more passenger space, although the separate boot is surprisingly compact for a car of this size. This can be extended by the removal of the back row of seats, which cannot be folded into the floor. Its sheer size does make this 4x4 very well suited to family life, however the difficulty in being able to find a space at the supermarket large enough to accommodate it, and the costs involved in running such a beast may encourage you to look elsewhere.

The interior is to a high standard and there is a range of high-tech kit fitted as standard, with a number of option extras available. The Escalade is only available as a left-hand drive model, and this coupled with its size, can make visibility quite poor on English roads.

Background

The Escalade was originally based on the GMC Yukon Denali and went into production in 1999, as little more than a re-badged version of the Yukon. It was largely unsuccessful and production stopped after only 10 months.

The second generation fitted in with the overall Cadillac design theme and went into production in 2002. The models were able to seat 8, rather than the 5 passengers of the previous generation. The current generation was introduced for the 2007 model year to combat slipping sales, and was made the official vehicle of the Super Bowl XL, with one of the first production Escalades going to the MVP of that game.  A hybrid version of the Escalade has also been developed, and was awarded to the MVP of Super Bowl XLII.

Summary

The Escalade is a dominating 4x4, with a massive presence. It stands out in a crowd due to its massive and in-your-face styling. Although not the most practical vehicle for UK roads, it sheer size has obvious benefits.
