Audi S7 Overview
Audi released the A7, the car on which the S7 is based, in 2010 and it was something of a first for the company. The executive coupe class is a relatively new segment of the market and the A7 was Audi's first offering in it.
The Audi S7 is fitted with a 414bhp 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine which propels it from 0-62mph in an impressive 4.7 seconds. The acceleration is effortless in any gear, making the S7 a superb long distance cruiser.
The S7 is not a sporty car -- the steering and the brakes are nowhere near responsive enough to make the S7 an involving drive -- but the one thing it is, is comfortable. The thing just eats the miles up, and it's an incredibly cosseting and comfortable place to be.
Background
The Audi S7 was first sold in the UK in 2012, two years after the introduction of the A7 on which it is based. The car has no direct predecessor -- this is Audi's first offering in the executive coupe segment.
Summary
The Audi S7 is too pricey to justify itself. If it was a hoot to drive we could forgive the lacklustre driving experience it offers, but it isn't -- it's just a very classy and competent motorway mile-muncher. The problem is: so is the diesel version, and that's £20k cheaper.
