Aston Martin Cygnet Overview
The car is at home in the city, nimble about town and small enough to fit in the tightest of spaces. On the other hand, once you get out of town, its performance leaves a lot to be desired. Some engine and wind noise at high speeds, and a choppy ride mean travelling a distance isn’t the most pleasurable experience.
The bespoke interior shows the Aston quality. There is expensive leather, Alcantara or top-quality carpet on every surface. The interior details are all Aston Martins own so although you may know that it features many of the iQ’s components, once in the cabin, you feel as if you are in a completely different car. The exterior too features a number of Aston’s personal touches, including the distinctive front grille.
Background
The Cygnet was introduced in 2011, and enables the British sports car manufacturer to comply with fleet average emissions requirements, imposed by the EU for 2012. It is the first Aston Martin city car ever made, and is a significant deviation away from their sporting roots. It does allow them to try and offer a luxury alternative to many city cars, in an increasingly environmentally conscious society, where they may be able to form a niche market.
Summary
The Cygnet is essential a rebranded Toyota iQ, which will only appeal to the super rich due to its lofty price tag.
