CarSite Verdict:  3.25/5
The Santa Fe is a good car with an undesirable badge. It is good value but £25k is a lot of money to fork out for a Hyundai and this may put buyers off.

PROS:  Practical, refined, well made, good looking

CONS:  It's not particularly cheap to run and its performance is unspectacular

Behind the Wheel

The Santa Fe's 2.2-litre diesel engine produces 194bhp and 311lb-ft of torque which is enough to propel it from 0-62mph in a thoroughly respectable 10.2 seconds and on to a top speed of 118mph.

It's also very comfortable thanks to soft suspension but the downside to this is an enormous amount of body roll through the corners. The steering feels very vague and inspires absolutely no confidence whatsoever which is a shame but, on the plus side, the Santa Fe is remarkably refined, remaining quiet even at high speeds.

Looks & Equipment

The Santa Fe is a good looking machine, let down only by its budget badge. The interior also feels very well put together and is quite luxurious.

You also get a decent amount of standard kit with air-con, electric windows, rear parking sensors, Bluetooth and a CD player with MP3 connectivity as standard. Sat-nav, however, will cost you an extra £515 and metallic paint a further £495.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

The Hyundai is a very practical proposition thanks to its seven seat layout although the third row of seats is only suitable for children. The boot is massive with 969-litres of space available with the rear seats in position and a van-like 2247-litres available with all the seats removed.

Hyundai make very reliable cars and the Santa Fe is protected by a five year unlimited mileage warranty. It should also be safe and scored four stars in the Euro NCAP safety tests.

Value for Money

The Santa Fe 2.2 CRDi Style (7 seat) Auto 5dr is priced at £25,795 which is very reasonable for seven-seater 4x4. 38.2mpg combined is quite respectable for a car of this size as are CO2 emissions of 197g/km (VED band J) but the Santa Fe will still not be cheap to run.

Depreciation will also be very steep.
