Volkswagen is set to unveil two new electric models at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the e-Golf and the e-up!

The e-Golf is powered by an electric motor which develops 113bhp and 199lb-ft of torque, giving a 0-62mph time of 10.4 seconds and an electronically-limited top speed of 87mph. Volkswagen claims that the e-Golf will have a range of 118 miles.

By contrast, the brilliantly-titled e-up! -- which, you might recall, we told you about back in March -- makes do with an 80bhp electric motor which develops 155lb-ft of torque. 0-62mph takes 12.4 seconds and flat out the e-up! will be doing 84mph. A range of just under 100 miles should be on the cards.

Both the e-up! and the e-Golf are powered by lithium-ion batteries which can be recharged through the fastest charging stations from flat to 80 per cent capacity in just half an hour. Both cars are also offered with selectable driving modes including Eco and Eco+ which help to maximise fuel economy. Regenerative braking technology is also included as standard to maximise range.

Standard features across both the e-up! and the e-Golf range includes automatic climate control, sat-nav, windscreen heating and daytime-running lights.

Prices for the two new cars have yet to be revealed; however, we expect more details to be released when the cars make their official debut in Frankfurt next month.
