Vauxhall ended 2010 strongly with more UK new car sales last month than any other manufacturer according to a report released today.

The figures published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders recorded that 16,548 Vauxhalls were sold in December, which is over 2,500 vehicles more than any other brand during the same period.

Leading the way for the company is the Vauxhall Astra, which sold 5,377 units last month to complete a year in which over 80,000 Astras were sold in the UK. A close second in the December sales figures for Vauxhall was the Corsa, which sold 4,737 examples.

Both the Astra and the Corsa led the sales tables in their respective classes for December, as did the Insignia and the Zafira. Vauxhall performed particularly strongly in the fleet sales sector. The Astra, Corsa, Insignia, and Zafira all led their class sales figures for company car sales, with overall fleet sales for the company in December of 11,796.

Both the Zafira and Insignia were class leaders for the year as a whole, while the Vauxhall Astra proved to be the UK's best selling car overall in 2010.

Vauxhall Managing Director Duncan Aldred said that the brand's strong finish to 2010 "proves that we're back on track with a strong sales performance. Our newest models, like the Astra, Insignia and Meriva have raised the bar in their sectors, and it shows, while cars like the Corsa and Zafira are still proving immensely popular with our customers. I'm confident that 2011 will bring even more success for us."
