Furthering the UK’s status as the ‘global leader’ for energy efficient vehicles, Toyota are preparing to launch the ‘most economical hybrid’ on British shores this summer as the new Yaris Hybrid becomes available on 1 July.

The new model, which will be available in three trim levels, utilises Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive system to achieve its impressive credentials. This system combines a 1.5 litre VVT-i petrol engine with a nickel-metal hydride battery and continually variable transmission to ensure fuel economy and carbon emissions are both at the most efficient level.

Priced between £14,995 and £16,995, depending on the trim option which is selected, the car also offers good value for money – especially for those looking for long term ownership.

Trim options

Irrespective of which trim option you select, the environmental benefits are roughly the same. In the lower grade options, the T3 and T4, carbon emissions register at just 79 g/km. The higher spec T-Spirit sees emissions rise marginally to 85 g/km but, as this is still beneath the 100 g/km threshold, all models fall under road tax band A making their drivers exempt from this cost.

Other charges, such as those incurred for London’s Congestion Charge, are also waived for these models which boast being the most economical hybrids on the UK market.

The differences between the specifications are mainly cosmetic, with the T3 offering the most basic level of kit which includes a six-speaker audio system, dual-zone air conditioning and seven airbags. The T4 adds features such as Bluetooth connectivity and rear-view cameras to this whilst the top of the range T-Spirit benefits from additions which include rain-sensing wipers, a part-leather interior and cruise control.

All of the models come in a selection of eight colours which range from classic choices such as Cirrus White and Eclipse Black to more outlandish options such as Burning Red and Deep Aqua.

On top of these extensive style options, the car also boasts high fuel efficiency levels to match its strong green credentials, with the T3 and T4 models achieving 80.7 mpg whilst the more advanced T-Spirit still performs adequately with fuel efficiency of 76 mpg.

The introduction of this model to the UK market is sure to prove popular, especially considering the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) labelled the UK as the ‘global leader’ for energy efficient vehicles at the beginning of the year.
