The Toyota Auris Hybrid will be available from June with CO2 emissions of just 84g/km -- 3g/km less than the current greenest model in the Auris Hybrid range.

While CO2 emissions for the Auris Excel Hybrid remain unchanged at 91g/km, the figures for the Auris Icon Hybrid have dropped from 87g/km to 84g/km, making it the cleanest car in its class.

Toyota has achieved this reduction by fitting the car with a range of aerodynamic improvements such as new aero-stabilising fins in the rear window, and by tweaking the car's ECU settings. The firm claims that the changes have no negative impact on vehicle performance.

The changes will also be applied to the Toyota Auris Touring Sports when it goes on sale later this year. In Touring Sports form, the Auris Hybrid will emit 85g/km of CO2.
