A new free-to-download Android app which provides real time fixed and mobile speed camera alerts, as well as average speed checks, has been introduced to the UK by TomTom.

The app is available to download now on the Google play store. Using TomTom’s database, and verified by the company’s moderation team, the app will alert drivers to the locations of fixed cameras on the road they are driving on. In addition, reports from community members will update the system with the details of mobile speed camera locations. The app is now live in 15 countries globally, including the UK.

Corinne Vigreux, co-founder and managing director of TomTom consumer, said, “By launching the TomTom Speed Cameras app for free, we want to welcome more drivers into the TomTom community. Already, 4.6m drivers are working together to report and verify speed camera locations in real time – and now all Android smartphone owners can join us to make driving a more relaxed experience.  We have focused on reducing driver stress, by designing a clean and simple app which minimises false-alarms for irrelevant cameras.”
