Old people have it tough.
Not only are they ridiculed by younger members of the population for their weak bladder control and fondness for watching Songs of Praise and the Antique Roadshow, but many less mobile oldsters are also consigned to dither about for the rest of their days in a mobility scooter.
Mobility scooters are dreadful. They take forever to recharge, they look rubbish and they have a top speed of about 2mph. Happily, however, there is now a more enticing alternative to the traditional mobility scooter for petrolhead pensioners with a penchant for performance.
An Isle of Man-based engineering outfit by the name of Garage Insanity has taken a mobility scooter, thrown away its feeble electric motor and replaced it with the engine from a Suzuki GSX-600F motorbike.
Not only can it do 135mph, but 0-62mph takes just four seconds. Not only does this mean it makes mincemeat out of the Nissan Skyline over a quarter-mile drag race, but it also means that the Mavis can pop down to the shops and buy her daily packet of boiled sweets in record time.
