Skoda’s much-anticipated Kodiaq SUV has officially entered production after the first example rolled off the Czech assembly line earlier this week.

The Kodiaq marks Skoda’s first foray into the ever-expanding SUV market, and will be seen in the UK from February 2017.

“Production launch is an emotional moment for the entire company,” said Skoda production chief Michael Oeljeklaus. “Over the last few months, the whole team has been preparing for the start of production of our new SUV model.”

In readiness for Kodiaq production, the Kvasiny plant in the Czech Republic has undergone an extensive modernisation programme, including a new car body construction building and expanded paint shop and logistics areas. The plant has been home to Skoda production for 82 years, currently producing Superb and Yeti models in addition to the new Kodiaq, and capacity is expected to grow to 280,000 vehicles annually to meet demand for the models.
