In an attempt to swim against the current of the falling UK car market Spanish manufacturer SEAT is launching a new higher value trim level this month, called ‘Copa’.

The new Copa trim level is being rolled out across SEAT showrooms in the UK this month on the firm's popular Ibiza supermini and Leon family hatchback models. The word Copa itself, which is pronounced 'copper', is the Spanish word for 'cup'.

In order to tempt wavering buyers into taking home a new SEAT car, the firm is adding a wide range of extra equipment and styling features within the Copa trim, without any increase in price. This means that SEAT is effectively giving away £1000 or more worth of goodies for free.

The Copa trim will be available across all three of the Ibiza body styles - 3-door SC, 5-door, and ST estate - and for two engine types - the 1.4-litre 16V petrol and the 1.2-litre TDI CR turbodiesel - under the SE Copa designation.

Additional equipment, on top of the previous standard SE spec, includes 16 inch Fabula alloy wheels (only on the 1.4 engine model), climate control, refrigerated glovebox, automatic lights and wipers, dark tinted rear windows, leather steering wheel and gearknob, new bespoke Copa upholstery, and an auto-dimming rear view mirror.

This builds on the previous SE spec which included cruise control, six-speaker radio and CD player with MP3 compatibility and steering column controls, alarm, immobiliser and electric windows.

Prices for the Ibiza SE Copa start at £11,995 for the SC version.

For buyers who need a slightly larger vehicle SEAT's sporty five door family hatch, the Leon, will be offered in two new versions - S Copa and SE Copa.

The Leon S Copa is based on the entry level S trim, and includes the addition of dual-zone climate control, cruise control, new Copa upholstery and Bluetooth connectivity. The higher Level SE Copa, based on the Leon SE, offers the addition of a high quality SEAT Media System, parking sensors, light and rain sensors, auto-dimming rear view mirror and bespoke Copa upholstery.

Both of these new Leon Copa trims will be available with a choice of a 1.2-litre TSI 103bhp turbocharged petrol engine or an economical 1.6-litre TDI turbodiesel. A Leon S Copa 1.2 TSI can be picked up for £16,180, whereas the SE Copa trim for the same car will cost £16,940.
