A classic Formula 1 car driven by Michael Schumacher has sold for £195,000, which can quite justifiably be labelled a bargain considering he is the most successful driver in the sport’s history.
The price is made to seem cheaper still by the fact that track-only specials such as the Pagani Zonda R and Ferrari FXX cost in excess of £1 million. Moreover, a Mercedes driven to victory by Juan Manuel Fangio in two 1954 Grand Prix recently sold at auction for a whopping £19.6 million.
The Benetton-Ford B191 driven by Schumacher was due to go up for auction at the Nurburgring this Saturday, however it has now been sold in advance for what seems to be a rather modest sum, all things considered.
The seven-time F1 Champion drove the B191 in the 1991 season. The car won 1 of the 17 races that it lined up for, when three-time World Champion Nelson Piquet was victorious at the Canadian Grand Prix that year.
