When comedy legend Rowan Atkinson crashed his McLaren F1 in Cambridgeshire last August, he landed his insurance company with a £910,000 bill, it has emerged.

Although Atkinson suffered only minor injuries in the accident, technicians at McLaren spent weeks analysing the damage to the F1 and assessing how much it would cost to repair.

But despite the monumental cost of repairing what was once the fastest car in the world, Atkinson's insurers decided that repairing the car would be cheaper than replacing it. A McLaren F1 sold last November for £3.5m.

Atkinson bought the car for £650,000 back in 1997. This is not the first time the car has had to go in for repairs -- in 1999, the Blackadder actor drove the F1 into the back of Rover Metro, which was being driven by a pensioner.

The F1 is one of our favourite cars of all time here at Chez CarSite, and we're delighted to hear that it's back on the road. We're guessing that the same cannot be said of Atkinson's insurance company.
