It has become something of a cliché to criticise Porsches for their unimaginative styling.

However, as with all clichés, there is an element of truth to it.

At first glance, the new Porsche Boxster looks fairly similar to the old model; indeed, unless you're a petrolhead or just incredibly observant, you'll be hard pushed to notice the difference at all.

Despite this, Porsche GB's Managing Director, Chris Craft, has said that he believes that the new Boxster is a 'huge step forward'.

The new car is 35kg lighter than its predecessor, as well as 40% stiffer. Fuel economy has also been improved by 15% and CO2 emissions have fallen from 221g/km to 188g/km for the Boxster S with the PDK gearbox. This is down to the fitment of stop/start, electromechanical power steering and electrical system recuperation systems.

The newest Boxster is also the first Boxster to feature its own doors -- previous generations shared theirs with the 911.

The new Boxster is on sale now with prices starting from £37,589 for the standard car and £45,384 for the S.
