Porsche has revealed the new third-generation Cayman at the Los Angeles Motor Show.
With the new Cayman, Porsche aims "once more to set the class benchmark for driving performance." The new car is 30kg lighter and 40 per cent stiffer than the old model, and Porsche has increased the Cayman's wheelbase by 60mm.
At first glance, the new Cayman looks similar to its drop-top stable mate, the Boxster, but if you look more closely, a number of key differences become apparent. Whereas the Boxster features a strip of front LEDs, the Cayman's are arranged in a circular cluster.
In addition to this, Porsche has moved the Cayman's 18- or 19-inch wheels closer to the corners of the car; not only should this improve handling, but it also gives the Cayman are more muscular and planted stance. Large front air intakes also help to give the Cayman an aggressive look.
Engine-wise, there's a choice of either a 271bhp 2.7-litre flat-six or a 321bhp 3.4 in the Cayman S. 0-62mph takes just 5.7 seconds in the standard Cayman, and 5.0 seconds in the S. Adding Porsche's optional PDK and Sport Chrono Package slashes these times to 5.4 seconds and 4.7 seconds, respectively.
The new Porsche Cayman is available to order now, with prices starting from £39,694 for the standard model and £48,783 for the Cayman S.
The first deliveries are expected to be made in March 2013.
