Porsche has revealed a new facelifted version of its Panamera diesel ahead of the car's launch at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week.
And the big news is that the Panamera will now be available with a new, more powerful version of the Audi-sourced 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine which develops 296bhp -- a marked improvement over the 247bhp developed by the existing engine.
Torque figures are also up from 405lb-ft to 479lb-ft and as a result of this 0-62mph arrives in just 6.0 seconds (0.8 seconds down on the old model) and at the top end the Panamera will reach 161mph -- 9mph faster than its predecessor.
The power is sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic ZF gearbox which gets lower ratios for the first four gears and a higher top gear, along with Porsche's torque vectoring system which features an electronic rear differential which can lock up, providing extra traction. Porsche has also tweaked the Panamera's suspension by fitting stiffer anti-roll bars.
Despite the increase in power, Porsche claims that the new Panamera diesel will offer slightly improved fuel economy figures, returning a combined 44.1mpg compared to the 44.8mpg produced by the current model. CO2, however, is up from 166g/km to 169g/km, although this isn't enough of an increase to incur any extra penalty from the Chancellor.
On the outside, the new Panamera diesel benefits from the same styling revisions which the rest of the Panamera range will be subjected to later this year.
The new Porsche Panamera 3.0-litre V6 diesel will go on sale in January 2014.
