Volkswagen has announced that the new Jetta will be priced at just £16,960, £685 cheaper than the five door Golf.
This price is based on the 1.4 litre TSI petrol version, which has six airbags, ABS and ESP, MP3 compatible CD player and air conditioning. This is the lowest of the specs on offer. The top of the range Sport version is priced at £22,320.
The Jetta comes with two diesel and two petrol engines. The diesels are a 1.6-litre TDI with 104bhp along with a 2.0-litre TDI with 138bhp. The petrol engines are TSI units, with either 120bhp or 158bhp outputs.
All the engines come with a seven speed DSG gearbox; the diesels are available with a six speed DSG transmission. The 1.6 litre TDI delivers an impressive 63.7mpg along with emissions of 109g/km. These figures are made possible thanks to the Jetta's Stop-Start system.
The Jetta is on sale now; the first deliveries to customers are set for May.
