Land Rover’s new flagship Range Rover SVAutobiography model, which goes on sale this summer priced at £148,900, will debut at this week’s New York International Auto Show, the manufacturer has confirmed.

Created at Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations Technical Centre in the UK, the new model boasts exclusive internal and exterior trim finishes, premium leather interior, and the option of a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine producing over 540bhp.

The SVAutobiography will be available in both standard and long wheelbase variants, with the duo-tone paint finish featuring a Santorini Black upper body and a choice on nine lower body colour options.  Other distinguishing features include SVautobiography decals on both bonnet and tailgate, and a Graphite Atlas and polished chrome grille.

Inside the SVAutobiography’s well-appointed cabin are solid aluminium machined switchgear, pedals, centre consoles, and armrest adjusters.  Rear-seat passengers benefit from a chiller compartment and electrically-powered retractable tables.  There is more solid aluminium to be found on the rear pillar mounted coat hooks and seat rail finishers, while there are plush deep twist pile mohair carpet mats.  Even the owner’s handbook is leather-bound.

The new model has the option of an aluminium and veneer sliding loadspace floor, while practicality is further enhanced by the Range Rover’s split tailgate, and specially-developed ‘Event Seating’ – a brace of Windsor leather trimmed folded seats which stow in the luggage compartment and can be quickly deployed to provide seating for a further two adults.

In addition the supercharged V8 developed from the engine used in the spectacular Range Rover Sport SVR, the SVAutobiography is also available with the SDV6 Hybrid and SDV8 power plants.

“Range Rover originally defined the luxury SUV segment and the new SVAutobiography, developed by Special Vehicle Operations, takes Range Rover to another level of comfort, craftsmanship and refinement,” said Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations Managing Director John Edwards.

In addition the new model, Land Rover has instigated a programme of improvements across the whole range. The SDV6 engine now produces lower CO2 emissions as a result, while the addition of stop-start technology to the SDV8 engine increases its fuel economy to 33.6mpg. In addition, SDV8 powered models will in future be available with the All-Terrain Progress Control system.

Other enhancements include an improved Surround Camera System, hands-free tailgate, and Automatic Access Height which lowers the vehicle automatically when parked for ease of entry and exit.  Land Rover’s InControl system will enable smartphone users to check fuel levels, lock and unlock the doors, flash the lights, or sound the horn all via an app on their mobile device.

The new-improved Range Rover line up will also go on sale this summer, with prices starting from £74,950.
