Hyundai has released the first images of the next generation of its i10 city car, which is set to go on sale later this year following its public unveiling at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Appearing on the market five years after its predecessor went on sale, the new i10 is based on an all-new platform and is 80mm longer, 50mm lower and 65mm wider than the model it replaces.
Hyundai claims that the increased size gives the i10 best-in-class legroom and luggage space, with 252-litres of boot space on offer with the rear seats up. The longer wheelbase and wider track are also said to provide improved refinement, providing the i10 with a driving experience to rival cars in the class above.
The engine line-up has yet to be confirmed but is expected to be carried over from the current model, with a range of three-cylinder 1.0-litre and four-cylinder 1.2-litre petrol engines on offer.
Details of the i10's trim levels have also yet to be released; however, Hyundai has announced that the car will be available with a host of options including automatic climate control, cruise control with speed limiter and a heated leather steering wheel.
Senior Vice President and COO of Hyundai Motor Europe, Allan Rushforth, said: "New Generation i10 is another significant step forward for Hyundai Motor. Every aspect of the car has been designed and rigorously developed to meet the demands and needs of European consumers."
Like most of the cars Hyundai sells in Europe, the new i10 was designed and developed at the company's technical centre in Russelsheim, Germany. It will be built at Hyundai's factory in Turkey.
More information will be released ahead of the car's Frankfurt debut next month.
