Mitsubishi are toasting a pair of important milestones relating to their Outlander crossover.

It’s 15 years since Mitsubishi launched their popular Outlander model. The Outlander first went on sale in the United States in 2001, arriving in Europe two years later, and is now into its third generation. When the concept debuted at the 2000 Detroit Motor Show it marked the emergence of the term ‘crossover’.

Mitsubishi are also celebrating passing the 1.5 million worldwide sales mark for the Outlander, with the UK being its most important market.

With the introduction of the PHEV version two years ago, the Outlander has gone on to be an important player in the emerging plug-in hybrid sector, selling more than 25,000 examples in the UK.
