There are those who claim that the current MINI is too big, that it is untrue to Sir Alec Issigonis's original design.

Well, BMW has struck back against these accusations and created the smallest MINI ever -- only 1/4 of the size of the real deal.

The Mini MINI will be put to work during the field events at the Olympic Games, ferrying javelins, shots, hammers and discuses to and from the throwing area, and saving valuable time during the course of the event.

The Mini MINI is a 10bhp electric radio-controlled facsimile of its road-going brother, and weighs just 25kg. On top of this, it can sustain 35 minutes of constant usage and can be fully recharged in 80 minutes.

Three mini MINIs will be used during London 2012, and each will cover around three-and-a-half miles a day in four hour-long shifts.

So, when you're watching the field events, keep an eye out for the little MINI.
